Lessons in a Music Room That Feels Like Home

After 30 years working in media, I still count my lucky stars every morning when I step into my music room at 7am. Surrounded by guitars, scribbled notes, coffee, and a sleepy Labrador named Zelda, I prepare for a group of students I genuinely care about.

This isn’t just a teaching studio. It’s part of my home — and when you come here to learn, you’re welcomed into that space. Lessons are informal yet focused, sometimes funny, and often feel like an extended family.

We laugh at mistakes, celebrate wins, and take learning seriously — without taking ourselves too seriously. Some days I’m a coach, mentor, or enthusiastic nag (especially with teenagers!), but always with your progress at the centre.

Why Structure Matters

I’m a big believer in the London College of Music (LCM) syllabus because it offers the clearest, most useful structure I’ve found. More than that, it’s the framework that helped me become a teacher in the first place — it literally changed the course of my life. Now I get to share that same path with my students, and it still excites me every day.

Who I Teach

  • School-aged students – during the school year (39 lessons per year)
  • Adult learners – all year round, with scheduled breaks

Lessons are one-to-one, taught from my home studio in Bromley. Whether you’re preparing for a grade, writing your own material, or learning properly for the first time, we’ll make a plan — and stick to it.

What You’ll Learn

Depending on your goals, we might explore:

  • Acoustic or electric guitar technique
  • LCM grades (electric and acoustic)
  • Blues, folk, pop, and rock styles
  • Improvisation and songwriting
  • Rhythm, theory, and musical fluency

You don’t need to be advanced. You just need to want to improve and enjoy the journey.

How It Works

Every student gets:

  • A personalised lesson plan
  • Custom resources and backing tracks
  • Support between lessons when needed
  • A clear sense of direction

Lessons are tailored, structured, and as fun or as focused as you need them to be.

What Helps You Succeed

Progress comes from a simple mix: regular lessons, steady practice, and an open mind. If you bring those, I’ll bring the resources, preparation, and encouragement to help you succeed.
