Steven is a fantastic teacher and my playing has improved considerably since I have started lessons with him. Steven plans each lesson in advance and creates a lot of his own material. Each lesson is tailored and designed to challenge my abilities. Steven encourages improvisation and musical creativity and it feels great to be able to play my own improvised solos after such a short amount of time learning the instrument. I'm at the very blunt end of my 40s and before finding Steve I had been stuck playing basic open chords and a buzzy E-shaped barre chord for well-over a decade. I had no direction with the instrument and I could never carve out the time to learn anything new - every time I picked up a guitar I would just noodle around with the same old stuff. Finally, after yet another agonising rendition of the first few bars of 'No Woman, No Cry', my amazing wife gently suggested that I treat myself to some lessons. Fast-forward a few months and Steve has simply transformed my guitar playing. My technique is greatly improved and my musical knowledge has expanded tremendously. I am racing through the grades on both acoustic & electric, and I can confidently both play lead and accompaniment to a level that would amaze the old me. Our lessons are structured but not rigid, and the grades are a roadmap rather than goal such that the exams feel like an easy after-thought. I'm having great fun! I haven't been a pupil for a very long time, and I didn't know if my self-taught flaws could be fixed, but Steve is such a warm, motivational teacher that I need not have worried.
