About Me

My Story

Steven Randell, with telecaster, welcome

I’ve been passionate about playing the guitar since I was 14. After spending three decades in media, I sought a more fulfilling path—and becoming a guitar teacher has been one of the best decisions of my life. My years in leadership and the creativity I honed in media have enriched my ability to connect with and inspire my students.

After thousands of lessons, I’ve built meaningful relationships with a close-knit group of regular students. For those pursuing exams, I’m proud to say every student has passed with distinction. For those who prefer to learn for personal growth, we still follow the structured and inspiring syllabuses of the London College of Music, ensuring they develop well-rounded skills.

I’m patient, good-humored, kind, and attentive. Teaching guitar isn’t just a side hustle for me—it’s my true calling. Discovering this vocation later in life has given me a unique drive and obsession with being the best teacher and player I can be. My students often tell me my enthusiasm is contagious!

My Teaching Philosophy

I believe learning the guitar should be as enjoyable as playing it. Whether you’re a beginner picking up a guitar for the first time or a seasoned player refining your skills, my lessons are tailored to your goals and musical preferences. Together, we’ll build your confidence and explore the joy of making music.

All my lessons are an hour long, except for younger students under ten, to ensure we have plenty of time to cover both acoustic and electric guitar. With well-structured syllabuses, we’ll dive into lead, rhythm, theory, performance, sight-reading, technique, ear training, and composition. There’s always something new and exciting to learn!

What You Can Expect

In my lessons, you’ll find a welcoming and supportive environment where mistakes are celebrated as steps toward progress. My goal is to help you master the songs you love while building a solid foundation in technique and theory.

Each student receives a personalised, bound book that grows every week with new pieces, exercises, and challenges—ensuring constant progress and never a dull moment. I tailor every lesson to your unique strengths, weaknesses, and pace, always encouraging you to step outside your comfort zone and improve.

Unlike lessons that focus solely on learning other people’s songs, I believe in equipping you with the skills to play anything you love—and, more importantly, to develop your own voice and musicality.

We’ll combine acoustic and electric guitar to create a well-rounded skillset. Improvisation, which is central to understanding the instrument and theory, is something all my students learn and love.
